Winter still waiting for a call

As coach of one of the clubs most likely to be affected by the restructuring of local football, North Shore coach Darren Winter has questioned why AFL Barwon didn’t canvass his opinion.

The fourth-year Seagulls coach has no shortage of experience in the game.

A member of the Tasmania Hall of Fame, Winter was front and centre as the Apple Isle went through a tumultuous period as it tried to find a model to suit the sport in the state before settling on the Tasmanian State League.

“I never heard from anyone at AFL Barwon,” Winter said on K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast.

“Which I find bizarre, being one of the key stakeholders in the competition.

“I assume one of the coaches is a key stakeholder? I would have thought that, anyway. Maybe not?

“When I was coaching Tassie, we’d get together as (a) coaching crew and AFL Tasmania and talk about the whole competition and put ideas forward.

“That doesn’t seem to happen over here.”
