Geelong West youngster Tristan Carson is facing an extended stint on the sidelines after suffering a serious lower leg injury in the GFNL reserve grade clash with St Joseph’s.

The Joeys junior sustained a double break to his tibia and fibula following a contest during the second quarter of the match at Plan Group Oval, and will undergo surgery early this week.

Medical staff from both clubs provided care to Carson, who had to wait more than an hour for an ambulance to arrive.

The match was continued on nearby Walker Oval, with St Joseph’s winning by four points.

The wait for an ambulance caused a slight delay to the start of the senior match, in which Joeys ran out 91-point winners.
