An century for Geelong’s Ollie Peake hasn’t been enough to guide Australia through to the final of the under 19 world cup.
The Australian captain smashed a century off 85-balls, and was the last man dismissed when Australia fell to England by 27-runs.
The Australian side was undefeated heading into the final, with England batting first and setting the Aussie’s 278 to win.
Nitesh Samuel was the other guiding light for the Aussie’s with 47, but it was the skipper who kept the side in the match as he carved out his second hundred of the tournament.
But as his partners fell around him, Peake battled through the heat and extreme discomfort – cramping in both his hand and leg – to try and keep his side in the game.
He kept the game alive with a 22-run over late in the game – while basically standing still at the crease – but was close to unable to run at the end of the innings after bringing up his ton.
In the end he was caught on 100, ending his innings and the Australian tournament.
Peake closes the tournament with the seventh most runs in the competition – 234 from four innings – at an average of 78 with two centuries.
