GETTING off to a hot start will be a top priority when Geelong Falcons travel to Ballarat’s Mars Stadium on Sunday to face the Greater Western Victoria Rebels in Round 2 of the NAB League Boys season.
“I think it’s important that we start well on the weekend. Obviously, the first quarter was probably the difference in the end against Bendigo last round,” coach Luke Daffy said.
“We’re looking forward to starting with our midfield group, them getting their hands on the ball nice and early and really getting into the contest and winning our own ball.
“That was something we struggled with last week, we just couldn’t get our hands on it. That’s going to be our big focus this week.”
Both teams will be coming off a loss from their season openers. Geelong went down by 43 points to Bendigo, while Greater Western Victoria suffered a six-point defeat against Dandenong.
Daffy says his team is ready for the challenge the Rebels will pose.
“They are a very good side. They had a really good game against Dandenong and just missed out on the win with some really good form in that last quarter,” he said.
“We’ve gone away and worked on some of our fundamentals.
“We’re excited to get another opportunity after the disappointment of last week.”
The Falcons will make up to three changes in an extended squad with Oscar Lewis, Archie Hildebrandt and Oscar Balderas omitted.
