RENEE Tierney is proof that good things come to those who wait after the former Geelong Falcon landed a spot on Essendon’s AFLW list.

Tierney, who spent four years with the Falcons and is their record-holder for games played and goals kicked, was overlooked in last year’s AFLW Draft.

However, a standout season at VFLW level, where she’s kicked 16 goals from 12 games to help the Bombers to the minor premiership, was hard to overlook.

Tierney has been signed Eloise Ashley-Cooper and Isabella Ayre.

“In our inaugural VFLW season, the team won one game. Five years on and they’ve finished undefeated and minor premiers,” Essendon football boss Josh Mahoney said.

“These three signings in addition to the previous announcements are a fantastic reflection on our VFLW program and how it has enhanced individual players’ development while striving for team-orientated success.

“Eloise, Renee and Bella have been key to our VFLW success this year and I look forward to seeing them develop further in the AFLW environment.”

Tierney’s signings follows the news fellow former Falcons Stephanie Williams and Ingrid Houstma have been traded for each other in deal between Geelong and Richmond.
