GEELONG Falcons coach Paul Corrigan has urged his team not to get caught up in Eastern Ranges start to the 2021 season ahead of Saturday’s clash with their fellow unbeaten NAB League Girls side.
The Ranges have been dominant in their first two matches, including keeping Gippsland Power goalless in a competition record 114-point victory last week.
“I said to the girls, “don’t get too consumed by the score and all that”,” Corrigan said.
“It’s more important to focus on what we’ve been doing in the last couple of weeks and all through the pre-season, and keep developing as a team, and just accept the challenge and look forward to it.
“It will determine where we sit; I think Eastern are pretty strong.”
Corrigan says the Falcons need to remain positive even if the Ranges get the match on their terms at Kilsyth Recreation Reserve.
“Sometimes you come up against good opposition and things don’t always go your way,” he said.
“I said it’s important we bring ourselves back to what we’ve been learning about our ball movement and how we want to defend.
“We’re going to be challenged during the game, and not everything’s going to be perfect – I’ve never seen a perfect game of football.
“So, how we adapt when we’re not on top, and how we get back in the flow of the game – making sure we’re thinking about that and not getting too down on ourselves when things stop working for a period of time.”
