GEELONG Falcons will unveil another debutant as it looks to consolidate its spot among the top two country teams as the NAB League Girls season reaches its halfway point.
The Falcons have strung together three consecutive wins to be sitting third on the ladder and second among Country teams with six rounds remaning.
A victory over the 11th-placed GWV Rebels in Ballarat this Saturday will have Paul Corrigan’s charges well placed for another finals berth.
The match is part of a double-header at Mars Stadium as part of the Futures series, where those not selected in the NAB League team have an opportunity to play.
“We’ve got a fair understanding of where the competition sits, who the top sides are and where we sit in that,” Corrigan said.
“We’re starting to get an understanding of our side, too, and how that best works for us.
“Even with these Futures games, we might see someone pop up from there that we would like to give an opportunity to in the back half of the year.
“It’s an exciting time at the moment.”
After impressing with St Mary’s in the AFL Barwon competition, Jaime Castledine will get her first opportunity at NAB League Girls level.
A hamstring injury delayed her getting a chance earlier in the season.
“She’s a tall key forward that can pinch-hit in the ruck for us,” Corrigan said.
“I’m looking forward to her playing. She’s super competitive in the air.
“It’s great to see another debutant getting an opportunity.”
