Falcons lock away finals berth

GEELONG Falcons will take plenty of confidence into the NAB League Girls finals following a 31-point final-round win over the Bendigo Pioneers at Deakin University on Saturday.

After leading by just a point at half time, the Falcons kicked six goals to two in the final two quarters to record a 9.11 (65) to 4.10 (34) victory.

They will now face the unbeaten Dandenong Stingrays in the Country Conference semi-final at Frankston next Saturday, with the winner earning a spot in the grand final.

“The girls are pretty excited about playing Dandenong next week,” coach Paul Corrigan told Bay 93.9’s The Sideline View.

“It’s a really good effort by the girls this year, so we’re really proud of what they’ve been able to achieve.”

Forward Lizzie Dowling was outstanding on her return from Vic Country duty.

She kicked 2.2 from an equal-game-high 28 disposals.

Sara Howley was also impressive with 28 disposals, and captain Charlotte Simpson (19) also won plenty of the ball on her return from injury.
