GEELONG Falcons coach Paul Corrigan said last year’s grand final loss to Oakleigh Chargers has barely rated a mention ahead of Saturday’s clash between the two clubs.
The Chargers had the better of the Falcons by 37 points at Werribee in May.
But with only eight players from last year’s team lining up this week, Corrigan said the focus has been embracing the challenge of taking on one of the competition’s best players.
A win for the Falcons will see it improve to 3-1 approaching the season’s halfway mark.
“I think we’ve played some really good football after that first half against Dandenong (in Round 1),” Corrigan said.
“From then on, we’ve kept getting better and better as each week’s gone on.
“I think the girls have really started to understand how we want to play and what that looks like and have trust and belief in that.
“Oakleigh presents a really good challenge for us to show our wares and put up what we’ve put into practice in the last two weeks.
“Coming up against a good side like them will be a great test for our girls to see where we sit.”
Jo Sunderland returns after missing the 7-point win over Gippsland Power, with Torquay youngster Stella Huxtable making way.
“She’s a little bit unlucky to miss, but she’s got so many more years ahead of her,” Corrigan said.
“It’s been fantastic for Stella to get three games under her belt already.
“Jo’s performances in the first two weeks were really impressive, and she had to miss last week through isolation, so we were really keen to get her back in the side.”
