A FIVE-day break and the absence of a couple of stars midfielder have proven no hindrance for the Geelong Falcons as it maintained its unbeaten start to the NAB League Boys season.
The Falcons, who were without suspended captain Jyhe Clark and injured midfielder Ted Clohesy, were too good for the GWV Rebels, claiming a 47-point win at Lake Wendouree on Thursday night, 15.7 (97) to 7.8 (50).
“Right from the first bounce, their pressure and defence were really intense,” coach Paul Corrigan told Bay 93.9’s The Sideline View.
“They were able to hit the scoreboard in the first quarter and carried that through for the remainder of the game.
“We were in control for most of the game and kicked away a little bit in the second and third quarter.
“Even coming off the five-day break against Bendigo last week, I thought they ran out the game extremely well.”
Tagdh Evans made the most of his opportunities up forward, finishing with 4.2 from nine disposals, while, after playing the hero last week, Euriah Hollard finished with three goals to take his tally for the season to seven.
Ruck Olivier Northam again impressed with 39 hitouts and 16 disposals, while midfielder Jet Kneebone gathered a team-high 22 possessions.
The Falcons will make their first trip to Darwin for a game in Round 4 when they meet the Northern Territory at TIO Stadium next Sunday.
“We fly up Saturday and maybe have a little training session Saturday afternoon,” Corrigan said.
“The boys play Sunday morning, and then they’ll fly home Sunday afternoon.”
