GEELONG Falcons coach Paul Corrigan has been left to lament a disappointing second quarter as his team’s four-match winning streak was brought to a halt by the Western Jets.

After an even first quarter at Westbourne Grammar, where the margin was one point in favour of the home team, the Jets banged on four goals while keeping the Falcons scoreless to take a 28-point lead into the main break.

It proved to be the difference in the contest, with the Jets claiming a 7.13 (55) to 2.5 (17) victory.

“For our girls, coming up against a side like that was a really good challenge for us today,” Corrigan told Bay 93.9’s The Sideline View.

“We probably had a poor second quarter; I thought the other three quarters were really competitive.

“Compliments go to Western Jets. Their pressure was fantastic today

“I think we, probably at times, were a little bit on the back foot with their pressure, and we didn’t handle it as good as we probably have in recent weeks.

“It’s a good learning curve and good education for our girls.”

Keeley Hardingham was the standout for the Falcons in a losing effort.

The talented had 28 disposals, took six marks and laid six tackles.

Jo Sunderland (22 disposals, seven marks) and the consistent Sara Howley (21 disposals, nine marks, five tackles) also battled hard.

The Falcons remain the second-placed Country team but are only four points clear of Tasmania, which has a game in hand and a better percentage.

They return to Ballarat for the second time in three weeks for another clash with the GWV Rebels at Mars Stadium next Sunday.
