AFTER AFL clubs overlooked Oscar Morrison during last week’s draft period, Geelong Falcons coach Paul Corrigan and talent manager Tom Lonergan will meet with the defender later this week.
The St Joseph’s product was an outside chance to find a home after an impressive 2021 campaign with the Falcons and two GFL senior games with Joeys.
However, he was unable to join teammates Toby Conway, Mitch Knevitt and Cooper Whyte in finding an AFL home for 2022.
“We’ll sit down with Oscar, support him, and look at the avenue going forward which is going to best help his footy,” Corrigan said.
“And if his determination is to still one day get on an AFL list, what does that pathway look like?
“‘Domsy’ (Lonergan) and I will have that conversation with him, set that plan in place, and support him wherever we can.”
One of those avenues could be returning for a 19-year-old year in the NAB League.
“What we’ve got to keep in mind is that a lot of these players have missed a lot of footy in the last two years, so he hasn’t had the chance to put a couple of really good seasons together of really consistent football,” Corrigan said.
“We’ve been hampered, as everyone knows, by what COVID’s done to us.
“I’ve always said the group’s been really resilient, and I’ve got no doubt the boys who have missed if they’ve still got that desire to get drafted, they’ll be more resilient than a lot of other people.”
As a former Geelong player, Corrigan was rapt Conway, Knevitt, and Whyte will all get the opportunity to pull on the Hoops.
“It’s nice to know the Cats look the region fondly and the talent we do have, and to give their support by drafting the three of them,” he said.
“Having spent a bit of time there myself, it’s nice that they can watch them closely being down here.”
