GEELONG Falcons coach Jason Armistead has praised his players’ ability to adapt their game style following Saturday’s low-scoring 14-point win over Calder Cannons in windy conditions at Craigieburn’s RAMS Arena.

The 3.2 (20) to 1.0 (6) victory has ensured the reigning premiers will play finals with two home-and-away rounds remaining.

“I spoke after the game about the fact we can win in different ways,” Armistead said.

“We can score heavily when the game allows us to, but if we need to get into a tight contest, we’re able to win it that way as well.

“Our group adapt well to each game, and it gives us good confidence as coaches that our players can change things as they need to during the game.”

NAB LEAGUE BOYS: FALCONS FALL SHORT AGAIN

Once again, the Falcons defence, led by vice-captain Abbey Chapman, was at its miserly best.

They held the Cannons, who had been averaging just under 45 points per game, scoreless for the opening three quarters.

“Abbey, Daisy Smith was done there a bit as well, and Lizzy Dowling were all in our best players,” Armistead said. “The whole back six did a great job.

“In the second half, Calder pushed an extra player to the contest, so Abbey sat off a little bit and organised the rest of the defenders.

“‘Chappy’ was awesome.”

The Falcons now prepare for a clash with fellow premiership contender and 2018 grand final opponent Northern Knights at Deakin University next Sunday.

“The girls are looking forward to playing the other undefeated side and see exactly where we sit,” Armistead said.
