Local grounds to light up

FIVE grounds used for local senior football will share in more than $2.2m in funding to improve lighting.

St Albans Reserve (St Albans), Grinter Reserve (Newcomb), Burdoo Reserve (Grovedale), Osborne Park (North Geelong) and Winter Reserve (Belmont Lions) are set to receive upgrades through the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

The project will see new and upgraded LED sports lighting infrastructure replacing those that don’t meet the accepted standards for safe use.

“This investment will support the local economy and create jobs – and support the growing number of people in Geelong keen to get involved in sport and recreation,” Member for Geelong Christine Couzens.

GFL: JOEYS UPGRADE FAST-TRACKED

Meanwhile, the much-need upgrade of facilities at Inverleigh is set to go ahead.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney has confirmed funding of $1.52 million.

The money will be used to refurbish two existing change rooms and construct two new female-friendly change rooms.

“I’m really pleased to announce this important funding for the mighty Hawks – it’s not only an investment in the future of the club but also for the community who use it,” Ms Tierney said.

“This investment will support the local economy and create jobs – and support the growing number of people in Inverleigh keen to get involved in sport and recreation.”

“We’re making sport and recreation more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all Victorians by giving communities the facilities they need.”
