GEELONG has suffered a massive blow to AFLW hopes with No.1 draft pick Nina Morrison rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament.
The 18-year-old, who earned a Rising Star nomination for her performance in the Round 1 win over Collingwood, underwent scans this morning after she suffered the injury at training on Thursday night.
“It’s obviously an extremely disappointing situation for Nina and the club,” coach Paul Hood.
“Nina is a resilient young woman and will tackle her recovery from this injury as she does everything, with a determination and the precision to ensure she is back at 100 per cent for next season.
“The club will offer its support and care to Nina as she begins her rehabilitation.”
Morrison, who hadn’t played competitive football this time two years ago, flew onto the radar with outstanding performances for the Geelong Falcons at TAC Cup level and with Vic Country.
She is the second No.1 draft pick to suffered a ruptured ACL, with Isabel Huntington going down during her first season with the Western Bulldogs.
Morrison is also the second Cat to fall victim to the injury, with Elise Coventry suffering the same fate in the practice match against Carlton.
