AFL Barwon has released its plans for a modified season for GFL, BFL, GDFL and Colac and District clubs – however, it’s dependent on the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
The local governing body has targeted August 15 as a start date for ‘pool’ competition, but they need the restrictions to have been lifted to a point by August 1 where a venue will be allowed 500 spectators and contact training is underway.
Pools of six teams is AFL Barwon’s preferred model, however, the number of entries will ultimately decide what the format looks like.
Squad numbers would be capped, players wouldn’t be paid, and player points won’t be a factor.
AFL BARWON: JUNIOR PLANS UNVEILED
Matches wouldn’t count towards official records, meaning there would no addition to a player’s games tally or player points reduction.
The last possession rule, which has been played at reserves and junior level, would be introduced.
Meanwhile, AFL Barwon is targeting August 2 for the start of the Senior Women’s competition.
A potential modified season would see two rounds of grading and six post-grading games, with 1st and 2nd to meet in a grand final.
