BFL and GFL clubs could know as soon as Thursday night what salary cap and points limits they will be playing to in 2021.
BFL presidents will meet remotely with AFL Barwon from 6:30pm, with their GFL counterparts to follow an hour later.
There are some reports that AFL Victoria has set the maximum salary cap for community leagues in 2021 at $100,000 following the impact of COVID-19.
That would mean a reduction of $45,000 for the GFL and at least $10,000 for the BFL, although some BFL clubs are expecting something in the vicinity of $80,000 to $90,000.
As it has in previous years, AFL Barwon is also likely to set the salary cap for the GDFL, with that league’s clubs allocated $90,000 in 2020.
AFL Barwon Region General Manager Will McGregor told krockfootball.com.au last month clubs were bracing for a reduction.
“In the norm, that is the general consensus,” he said,
“I haven’t had a look at all club feedback so that that position may have potentially changed.
“But I think, in general, there is an avenue for a reduction based on everyone’s financial position and uncertainty leading into the future.”
The points cap will also be of interest, with the clubs keen to know if any reduction will be given to players who were registered before the season was cancelled.
