AFLW father-daughter prospect Charlotte Simpson faces another fortnight on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a small fracture of her cheekbone.

The Geelong Falcons Girls captain and Vic Country Academy member suffered the injury in a head clash in the Round 4 win over Oakleigh Chargers on February 12.

Coach Paul Corrigan hopes to have Simpson, whose father Sean played AFL with both Geelong and St Kilda, back following the bye on the Labour Day long weekend.

“It’s disappointing for her, but we’re pretty happy it wasn’t more damage than it was,” he said.

“It got her in the spot on the right-hand side just above her cheek.

“It’s just one of those things that happen in a game of footy.”

The Falcons will chase their fifth consecutive win when they make the short trip up the Princes Freeway on Saturday morning to clash with the Western Jets.

The Jets are also in good form, having strung together three consecutive wins, and Corrigan said he’s looking forward to another challenge for his charges.

“They’ve got some real strength through their midfield,” he said.

“It’s always nice to go up against the Metro sides, especially the ones that are performing really well and have been really consistent, and their form has been that.

“I said to the girls on Wednesday night it’s going to be another really good challenge for us, and just a really good experience for our group as well.”

Corrigan has made two changes for the match, with Stella Huxtable and Mia Featherston returning at the expense of Lucy Della Monica and Meg Courtney.
