MICHAEL Walters has produced another match-winning display to lead Fremantle to a 21-point AFL win over Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium.

Walters entered Saturday’s contest having booted the winning score in each of the Dockers’ past two games.

And the 28-year-old produced the goods yet again, booting six goals from 25 disposals in the 15.10 (100) to 12.7 (79) win in front of 37,451 fans.

Fremantle trailed by a point heading into the final term.

Walters nailed a tough 40m set shot midway through the last quarter to get the ball rolling, and he iced the game with a goal in the dying minutes.

The Power were held scoreless in the final quarter, with Fremantle winning the inside 50m count 20-5 for the term.

Fremantle’s third win on the trot moved them into sixth spot with a 7-5 record, while Port Adelaide (6-6) slipped to ninth.

Nat Fyfe (37 disposals, 10 clearances) and Brad Hill (30 possessions) also starred in the win, while Sean Darcy (30 hitouts) was instrumental in the ruck during the final quarter to help Fremantle win the overall clearance count 40-31.

Jesse Hogan tallied three goals from 17 disposals in one of his best displays for the club.

Port Adelaide vice-captain Hamish Hartlett made a strong return from a knee reconstruction, tallying 12 disposals in the opening term on the way to 23 for the match.

Power midfielder Travis Boak (36 disposals, eight clearances) was instrumental, while Kane Farrell kicked a career-best four goals.

The Dockers were made to pay for a series of horror turnovers in the opening term.

Paddy Ryder and Farrell cashed in with two goals apiece, giving the Power an 11-point lead at quarter time.

Walters was the star of the second term with three goals, while Hogan chipped in with two as the Dockers took a five-point lead into the long break.

Tempers threatened to boil over at times in the first half.

Brad Hill had his jumper ripped after a first-term wrestle, and Robbie Gray cost his side a goal when he gave away an off-the-ball free kick to Walters.

Fyfe ran across to ruffle Gray’s hair to let him know of his brain fade.

Fremantle skipped 10 points clear on three occasions during the third term, but Port were able to peg the Dockers back each time and eventually overtook them.

The final quarter was a war of attrition as both sides threw everything into the contest.

The skills were sloppy but the hits were hard.

Eventually, it was the class of Walters that tore the contest apart, with Brandon Matera (three goals) also plunging the dagger in.
