CAT ATTACK PODCAST – STEVE HOCKING SPECIAL EDITION
Geelong has named uncapped ruck Mitch Edwards to make his AFL debut among three changes for Saturday’s Round 1 clash with Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium.
The Cats have also included captain Patrick Dangerfield and reigning Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron, who missed last week’s loss to Gold Coast.
Hawthorn recruit James Worpel will be sidelined with an infected finger, while Ollie Henry and Mitch Knevitt have been dropped.
Henry and Knevitt are emergencies alongside Jack Bowes.
206cm Edwards, a Dockers Next Generation Academy member, joined Geelong with pick 32 in the 2023 National Draft.
Of Indigenous heritage, rules at the time meant Fremantle couldn’t match the Cats’ selection of Edwards.
He played in the Cats’ pre-season games against Hawthorn and Carlton, tallying 20 hitouts and 11 disposals, and was an emergency for the defeat by the Suns.
Edwards becomes cap no.1121 for Geelong at VFL/AFL level.
Fremantle has named former Demon Judd McVee for his first game in purple.
K rock is live from 6 pm Friday via FM 95.5 across Geelong and the Surf Coast, delay-free on the K rock app, and the AFL app.
