Just days after Mitch Duncan became Geelong’s seventh 300-gamer, the wheels have been set in motion for Mark Blicavs to become the eighth early in 2026.
The 34-year-old has signed a one-year contract, extending his AFL career into a 14th season.
The former steeplechaser has played 280 of a possible 297 games since making his debut in Round 1, 2013, to sit equal 12th with Harry Taylor for appearances in the Hoops.
Blicavs is a two-time Carji Greeves medallist and earned an All-Australian blazer in helping Geelong to the 2022 premiership.
He has continued to show his versatility during the first half of the 2025 season, spending time in the ruck, defence, and midfield, where his noted endurance has again been on display.
“Blitz is an incredibly flexible and a dependable teammate and is an outstanding leader for our football program,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.
“It was an easy decision for us to extend Blitz’s contract; he remains a key piece for us and will continue to be a key driver of high standards and team success.”
The re-signing of Blicavs leaves injury-ravaged good mate Cam Guthrie, reigning Rising Star Ollie Dempsey, tough-as-nails midfielder Tom Atkins, Irishman Oisin Mullin, and livewire second-year forward Oli Wiltshire among the 13 players without a deal for next year.
