Geelong could be without captain Patrick Dangerfield for key clashes against Adelaide and Hawthorn after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury in the pre-bye win over Fremantle.

The veteran skipper, who turns 36 on Easter Sunday (April 5), underwent scans after the come-from-behind victory over the Dockers.

“Pat reported some calf soreness following the match against Fremantle, with subsequent assessment and scans confirming a low-grade calf injury,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.

“Given Pat missed our opening round game with a similar complaint, we’ll take a cautious approach and get some loading into his training with his return to play at this stage earmarked for Easter Monday, or the week after.”

Meanwhile, second-year forward Jay Polkinghorne is facing an unknown stint on the sidelines with a foot issue.

The South Australian was a standout in Geelong’s Round 1 VFL win over Essendon, finishing with 4.6 from ten kicks.

The Cats say Polkinghorne will be further assessed, with a conservative approach taken.

In positive news, luckless ruck Toby Conway has returned to outdoor running at training on Monday as he battles his way back from foot and knee issues.
