Geelong captain Meghan McDonald and fellow veterans Kate Darby, Kate Surman, and Shelley Scott will continue their AFLW careers for at least one more season after re-signing with the club.

One of Geelong’s six remaining original players from 2019, McDonald, who turns 34 in June, holds the club’s games record with 66 appearances.

Darby, who brought up her 50th AFLW and club game while shouldering the ruck load last year, will be crucial to developing former Australian volleyball star Caitie Tipping and draftee Piper Dunlop.

Gold Coast-based Surman and Gerangamete dairy farmer Scott had strong seasons last year.

The Cats have also handed one-year deals to Gabbi Featherston, Mel Bragg, and 2024 pre-season replacement player signing Caitlin Thorne.

“We’re thrilled to re-sign seven players who played important roles in our 2024 campaign,”
assistant football boss Brett Johnson said.

“Meghan has been an outstanding leader for us for many years, while Kate Darby, Shelley and
Kate Surman all bring valuable experience and leadership to our squad.

“It was exciting to see the continued development of Gabbi and Mel. Although coming into our
program late in the piece as a replacement player, Caitlin was also impressive with the way she
handled her first season in the AFLW.

“With a good mix of experience, youth and potential, we’re excited to see all seven players pull
the Hoops on again in 2025.”

Geelong has one list place available before the 2025 season, which starts on August 11.
