Geelong has landed what some are labelling as one of the steals of the AFLW Draft after adding West Australian Evie Cowcher.
The Cats had to wait until pick 11 to make their first selection after four matched bids earlier in the night.
Cowcher, a 175cm defender, was sidelined for a large chunk of the 2025 season with back stress fractures, but had put together an impressive underage CV before this year.
A two-time under-18 All-Australian, including in her top-age under-16 year, where she was also All-Australia and West Australian MVP, Cowcher made her league debut for Peel Thunder as a 15-year-old in 2023, winning the Rising Star award.
She was a member of this year’s National Academy.

Geelong used its second pick (27th overall) to add Tasmanian speedster Priya Bowering.
Bowering was named on the wing in the under-18 All-Australian team after starring for the Allies, where she won the team MVP.
Like Cowcher, she was part of the National Academy.
Bowering was the last player to be selected who was invited to the draft function at Marvel Stadium.

With its third pick (43rd overall), Geelong welcomed Renee Morgan from WAFLW club South Fremantle.
The midfielder represented Western Australia at the past two under-18 National Championships, averaging 18.5 disposals.
Earlier in the night, Richmond had the first pick in the draft and used it to select key forward Olivia Wolmarans from WAFL club Subiaco.
The GWS Giants had picks two and three, selecting Scarlett Johnson from the Northern Knights in the Talent League and Sydney Swans Academy product Kiera Yerbury, respectively.
At pick four, Gold Coast matched a bid from Adelaide for Suns Academy product Sunny Lappin, the daughter of former Carlton and St Kilda player Matt Lappin.
The Crows then used pick five to add midfielder Chloe Brown from the Oakleigh Chargers.
More to come
