Geelong is already delivering on its commitment to increase investment in its AFLW program.
Having already announced the appointment of premiership-winning Melbourne coach Mick Stinear as the replacement for Dan Lowther in December, the Cats have confirmed their assistant coaches.
Elise Coventry has been joined by former Geelong AFL player Sam Simpson and ex-North Melbourne AFLW assistant coach Ryan Pendlebury, who K rock Football understands will hold full-time roles.
They replace Nathan Brown and Andrew Bruce, who had been in part-time positions.
It is also believed that bench coach David Morgan, who has been with the AFLW program since it commenced, won’t continue in his role.
Simpson played 25 games, including the 2020 grand final, in seven injury-ravaged seasons at Kardinia Park.
After being delisted, the 27-year-old spent two years with WAFL club West Perth. He will play for Springbank in the Central Highlands League this year.
Pendlebury, the brother of Collingwood great Scott, played 83 games at VFL level, including with the Magpies.
He will continue to play locally with St Mary’s in the Geelong league in 2026 after helping the club to last year’s premiership.
“This group brings a really broad mix of experiences across elite premiership environments, player development and an understanding of our Club,” AFLW boss Dominque Condo said.
“Ryan’s recent success at AFLW level, Sam’s connection to Geelong and experience across multiple competitions, and Elise’s ongoing contribution to our program gives us a well-rounded coaching group.
“Combine this with Mick’s leadership, and it provides a strong platform for our AFLW program as we prepare for the 2026 season.”
