CHRIS Scott’s re-signing as coach of Geelong is now official.
The Cats have confirmed a two-year contract extension for Scott, which will take his tenure at Kardinia Park to at least the end of 2024.
The new deal will see Scott become the longest-serving coach in club history, surpassing three-time premiership coach Reg Hickey.
Scott has been in charge of 271 games since replacing Mark Thompson ahead of the 2011 season, where he took the Cats to their most recent premiership.
Hickey led the Hoops on 304 occasions for 184 wins.
Geelong’s win over Port Adelaide last week took Scott to 185 victories.
“At Geelong, we are a team of all that celebrates our wins together – and we are excited to celebrate this significant achievement with Chris,” CEO Steve Hocking said.
“I don’t think there’s much doubt that Chris is one of the best coaches in our game, and we’re really pleased to have him here in Geelong.
“We’ve seen an almost complete turnover in our list over the last decade, without access to the top of the draft, and we’ve remained competitive, year in, year out”.
“Chris has been a significant part of that, continuing to unlock excellence, and his record speaks for itself.”
CATS: A FOURTH DEBUTANT FOR 2022
Scott has a 71% win record in home-and-away games. However, that dips to 40 per cent at finals time, including preliminary final losses in 2013, 16, 17, 19 and 21.
