Geelong hasn’t ruled out throwing Mitch Knevitt a lifeline during next month’s AFL draft period despite delisting the midfielder.

The 23-year-old made 23 appearances for the Cats after being selected with pick 25 in the 2021 National Draft from the Geelong Falcons.

The Grovedale product debuted as the starting substitute in Round 8 the following year, but he never cemented his spot in the AFL team, with eight matches in 2023 Knevitt’s best return.

He played just two matches this year but was a key factor as the Cats played off in the VFL grand final.

Knevitt averaged 25.8 disposals and finished runner-up in the best-and-fairest.

“Mitch has been a dedicated member of our program over the past five seasons at Geelong,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.

“He’s brought a team-first approach to his footy, versatility, and been a great teammate.

“These decisions are never easy, and we thank Mitch for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best.”

Knevitt is the eighth player to leave GMHBA Stadium this off-season.
