GEELONG will take on traditional rivals Hawthorn in a match simulation, before heading to Queensland for a clash with Preliminary Final opponents Brisbane in an official pre-season match ahead of the season.
The Cats will host the Hawks at Kardinia Park on Thursday, 23 February, with all local fans able to attend the match free of charge, to get their first look at a Geelong side looking to defend it’s 2022 Premiership.
The team will head to the Lions’ new training centre in Springfield in an official AFL facilitated practice match on Thursday, 2 March, which will also be broadcast on Foxtel and Kayo, with broadcast details for the match simulation to be confirmed, meaning fans have the ability to watch every minute of pre-season action.
All 18 clubs will compete in one official practice match, with the format and game length replicating Toyota AFL Premiership Season matches.
16 clubs will participate in an additional match-simulation with the format, number of players, game length, and number of breaks to be agreed upon by the competing teams.
Due to the AFL’s additional round of matches in South Australia for ‘Gather Round’, participation in match-simulation was made optional for clubs, the Western Bulldogs and the GWS GIANTS have elected not to participate in the match-simulation.
