GEELONG has missed a chance to keep pace with the VFL top four following a five-point loss to Footscray at Whitten Oval on Friday night.
The Cats could have climbed to third spot with victory over the 15th-placed Dogs.
However, after fighting back from 19 points down at halftime to grab a three-point lead at the final change, Geelong could manage just one behind in the last quarter.
Josh Schache’s fifth goal in the early stages of the final term was enough for the Bulldogs to hang on.
“It was quite windy … it was a tough match, and it ebbed and flowed a little bit,” Geelong VFL boss Aaron Black told K rock Football.
“There was a 10-minute period in the second quarter where we lapsed a bit, and they kicked four goals in that 10-minute period, and it was kind of the game there, I reckon.”
