Cats to host Bombers in VFL opener

Geelong will open its VFL campaign with a Friday night clash against Essendon.

The Cats will host the Bombers at GMHBA Stadium on March 20 – the same weekend the club’s AFL team will have a bye.

First bounce is at 7:05 pm.

Geelong won last year’s meeting between the two clubs in Round 20 by 14 points.

It will be the Cats’ first standalone Friday night appearance at home since Round 14, 2023, against Casey Demons.

Geelong will again be coached by Mark Corrigan, who is entering his fourth season in the role.

The Cats have practice matches scheduled against Carlton, as a curtain raiser to the AFL Community Series clash between Geelong and the Blues, at Princes Park on Wednesday, February 25 and North Melbourne at Arden Street on Saturday, March 7

Meanwhile, Werribee has a trip to the Gold Coast to take on the Suns on Sunday, March 22.

It will mark the first game in charge of the Tigers for former Geelong AFLW coach Dan Lowther.

The former Geelong AFL player replaced Jimmy Allen at Chirnside Park after the premiership mentor took a role at St Kilda.

Further fixtures will be released in the coming weeks.
