GEELONG coach Andrew Bruce has urged his players to make the most of their opportunities in Saturday’s semi-final match-up with Southern Saints.

The Cats were forced to take the long way to a first VFLW premiership after inaccurate kicking at goal cost them victory in last week’s qualifying final against minor premier Collingwood.

Geelong finished with 2.8 in the six-point loss, with the Magpies more efficient in kicking 4.2.

“We’ve spoken about it a lot and shown some vision of certain things that we did well, but also things we can do better,” Bruce said.

“We know that when we are playing our best football that we give ourselves scoring opportunities, and we can kick good scores.

“But we just have to use the footy a little better going inside forward 50 and give our forwards a bit more of a chance to do their thing.”

Geelong has made one change from the team that lost to the Magpies, with Geelong Falcons key forward Renee Tierney returning for her third game of the season at the expense of Tahlia Tatlock.

“Renee’s played a couple of games for us throughout yeat and done really well,” Bruce said.

“We thought we needed a little bit more scoring power, so Renee will hopefully give us that.

Geelong won both meetings against Southern during the home-and-away season.

The Saints kept their flag hopes alive after upsetting Port Melbourne in last week’s elimination final.

“We’ve had two really tight games against them this year, and both in pretty appalling conditions, to be honest,” Bruce said. “It would be nice to play them on a nice day, hopefully.

“We’re really aware that they’re a good side, and the football they played last week against Port Melbourne was really good in the second half.
