GEELONG’S AFLW clash with the Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium tonight will go ahead with a crowd.

The AFL has confirmed the Cats and Dogs clash will be open to the public ahead of Victoria going into a five-day lockdown due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne.

However, no further tickets are being sold for the match.

It will be the only AFLW game in Victoria to have a crowd this weekend, with the St Kilda-Carlton, Melbourne-North Melbourne and Richmond-Collingwood match-ups closed to the general public.

The GWS Giants-Gold Coast and Adelaide-Fremantle clashes will both have crowds.

“The health and safety of everyone in our game and in the wider community remains paramount,” AFL head of women’s football Nicole Livingstone said.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority, and we remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner anchored in the advice of respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.”

In an eerie coincidence, what turned out to be Geelong’s final home-and-away match of the 2020 season, the Cats played North Melbourne in front of a crowd at GMHBA Stadium on a Friday night before the remainder of the season was played without fans.
