Geelong could be without Patrick Dangerfield for Friday night’s Opening Round clash with Gold Coast.

The veteran skipper, who wasn’t on the club’s official injury list that was released this (Tuesday) afternoon, says he’s battling a calf knock sustained last month.

“I’ve got to get through a session Thursday morning,” Dangerfield told Fox Footy.

“I just couldn’t get to the speed that I wanted to today.

“I had a calf knock a couple of weeks ago and just couldn’t get to speed against Carlton, and the same thing today.

“Getting above a certain km/h is obviously a critical part of preparing, and we won’t take a risk that’s unnecessary, regardless of whether it’s Round 1.

“You’d rather miss one than miss four.”

Earlier in the day, Geelong coach Chris Scott told his first media conference of the season that Bailey Smith, Jeremy Cameron and Shannon Neale would take on the Suns, while there was some doubt over Gryan Miers.
