Captain Patrick Dangerfield has become the latest Geelong player selected for February’s State of Origin clash between Victoria and Western Australia.

A day after Lawson Humphries became the first Cat named to the Sandgropers squad, Dangerfield is the fifth confirmed to represent the Big V, who Geelong mentor Chris Scott will coach.

The 35-year-old, who played for Victoria in the Bushfires Relief match in 2000 against the All-Stars, joins the previously announced Max Holmes, Jeremy Cameron, and Tom Stewart.

“Growing up, I dreamt of playing footy, winning premierships and representing Victoria, so when Chris gave me a call to be a part of the return of Origin, I jumped at the opportunity to finally pull on the Big V,” Dangerfield said.

“Garry (Lyon, chairman of selectors), Chris and the wider coaching team are pulling together a great squad that epitomises what Victorian football is all about.

“We have a great mix of experience and youth, and no doubt everyone involved is looking forward to seeing the Big V and Black Swan return in Perth next year.”

Meanwhile, former Geelong assistant coach Shaun Grigg, who is now at Gold Coast, has joined Scott’s staff for the February 14 clash at Optus Stadium.
