Geelong has confirmed it will take a “cautious approach” with captain Patrick Dangerfield, ruling him out of the Easter Monday blockbuster against Hawthorn.

Dangerfield, who turns 36 on Sunday, is continuing to battle a calf issue, which the club has listed as 1-2 weeks.

“While the longer turnaround into the Easter Monday game has been beneficial to build load back into Pat’s training, the club will continue to take a cautious approach, and he’ll return when ready,” footy boss Andrew Mackie said.

In good news for uncapped second-year forward Jay Polkinghorne, he is set to resume running this week after being sidelined from last week’s VFL win over Box Hill due to a foot issue.

Tyson Stengle remains on an individualised program as he works his way back to full fitness after an interrupted pre-season.
