GEELONG will host the Western Bulldogs to open Round 3 of the AFLW season at GMHBA Stadium on Friday night.

The Cats were originally scheduled to play Richmond this weekend at Punt Road. However, COVID-19 issues have turned the fixture on its head.

Geelong was due to play the Dogs in the final round at Whitten Oval on March 27.

“These continue to be unprecedented times and the fixture this year will continue to respond to and reflect the situation across the country,” AFL head of women’s football Nicole Livingstone said.

“We will continue to remain as adaptable as we listen to and work closely with each stakeholder to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone in the game.

“While COVID-19 continues to impact the community, the health and welfare of our players and the community remains the priority, and we remain committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner anchored in the advice of respective governments, public health officials and medical experts.”

The Cats and Dogs have met only once previously, in Round 2 of the 2019 season at Whitten Oval, with the home team winning by 18 points.

Friday night’s match starts at 7:10pm. Tickets go on sale for Geelong members at 11am Thursday, with on-sale for the general public at 1pm.
