The widely speculated move of Geelong great Mitch Duncan to a coaching role with West Coast has been confirmed.
Duncan, who announced his retirement at the end of August, finished his 16-season career with 305 games and as a two-time premiership player.
He has been appointed the Eagles’ backline assistant coach.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to join the West Coast Eagles and be part of an exciting new chapter for the Club,” Duncan said.
“I’m really looking forward to working with a talented playing group and contributing to their development.
“There’s optimism around the direction the Club is heading, and I’m keen to get started and help drive that growth.
“I’m excited to work under Andrew McQualter and continue expanding my own coaching journey. It’s great to be back home in WA, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
“It’ll be a challenge convincing my kids to swap their Geelong colours for blue and gold, but I’m sure they’ll come around!”
Duncan is no stranger to the West Australian capital, having been drafted from East Perth.
“Mitch is a fantastic addition to our coaching team and a great fit for the direction we’re heading as a football club,” Eagles football boss Gavin Bell said.
“His experience and calm, thoughtful approach will connect strongly with our developing playing group.
“Mitch’s ability to mentor and build meaningful relationships, combined with his leadership, will be valuable as we strive for progress in 2026 and beyond.”
