Former Geelong president Craig Drummond has been endorsed to join the AFL Commission and is poised to become the next chair.
Drummond would replace incumbent Richard Goyder at the league’s annual general meeting in March if the 18 clubs ratify his appointment.
He served as a director of the Cats for 13 years, spending four years as president between 2021-2024.
During Drummond’s presidency, Geelong won the 2022 premiership, and the Joel Selwood Stand was completed.
Goyder says capability and experience, the ability to unite AFL stakeholders, including clubs, and a passion and vision to grow the game where key criteria in the selection process.
“Our national game is in great shape, but we can’t afford to stand still,” Goyder said.
“The Commissioners and I have every confidence that when my term ends in March, Craig is the right person to lead a new era of growth and engagement with our fans, our clubs, and our broadcast partners.
“Craig has a deep understanding of football, combined with proven business and leadership capability.
“His contribution to the game and his professional track record will make him an outstanding addition to the AFL Commission.”
In the business world, Drummond served as CEO of health insurer Medibank following a 30-year career in finance with NAB, JB Were, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs.
