Cats call-up for GFL young gun

FRESH off winning the best-and-fairest with GFL club St Albans, Sam Donegan will make his VFL debut with Geelong on Sunday.

The Ocean Grove product has been training recently with the Cats alongside teammates Jacob Russell and Brock McDonald, who finished second and third in the Supersaints best-and-fairest.

“We’re really rapt for Sam,” St Albans coach Alex Tortora said. “He’s had a wonderful year … he’s been ultra-consistent.

“He’s been noticed by the Cats’ VFL squad, and he gets an opportunity.

“He’s been training for a few weeks,  he’s been building, and his form’s stacked up.”

Donegan is among seven inclusions for Geelong’s clash with Port Melbourne.

AFL-listed Jonathon Ceglar, Ollie Dempsey, Cooper Stephens and Luke Dahlhaus have been named.

Missing from last week’s loss to Box Hill are Esava Ratugolea, who has been recalled to the AFL team, injured trio Sam Simpson, James Willis and Tom Feely, and Ollie Tate and Lachie Bond.

Ted Clohesy has returned to the Geelong Falcons.

Meanwhile, Werribee will use its final-round meeting with the Northern Bullants to debut Geelong West’s Emmanuel Ajang and Grovedale’s Flynn Young.
