GMHBA Stadium has been given the green light for a capacity of 50 per cent for AFL games at the venue.
Starting with Saturday night’s AAMI Community Series match-up between Geelong and Essendon, 18.546 fans will be permitted.
It follows a Victorian Government decision that brings GMHBA Stadium into line with the MCG and Marvel Stadium.
The Cats-Dons clash had previously been declared a sellout with a cap on the crowd at 8,000.
More tickets will be released at 12pm Friday.
“Due to the increased capacity, fans will be occupying seats directly behind and in front of each other at the match,” the AFL said in a statement.
“Seating configurations have been approved by the Victorian Government.”
Geelong’s first home-and-away match at GMHBA Stadium is on Friday, March 26, when it’s hoped the capacity limit has been further increased.
