Cam Guthrie will take to the field for the first time in over eight months when Geelong meets Footscray to open Round 9 of the VFL season tonight at GMHBA Stadium.

The two-time Carji Greeves medalist has shaken off the Achilles issue that required surgery earlier this year and is among seven inclusions for the Cats, who are looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

Restricted to 10 AFL games since the 2022 grand final, Guthrie’s last competitive appearance was Geelong’s VFL semi-final loss to Southport in September.

Carlton recruit Jack Martin, young midfielder Mitch Knevitt and dynamic forward Oli Wiltshire have also been named to give the Cats an AFL contingent in double figures for the first time this year.

Skipper Dan Capiron, managed last week against Port Melbourne, headlines the VFL inclusions.
