Geelong has confirmed star midfielder Cam Guthrie is facing 8-10 weeks on the sidelines following scans on a quad injury suffered in the practice match against Carlton.

The two-time Carji Greeves medallist was forced from Ikon Park in the opening stages after going to ground following a kick.

“The prognosis indicates Cam will be sidelined for 8-10 weeks,” Cats football boss Andrew Mackie said.

“Cam is the ultimate professional who will attack his rehab diligently with the support of our medical team and we look forward to having back on the field in the early part of the season.”

31-year-old Guthrie hasn’t played at AFL level since Round 6 last year after being sidelined with a toe issue.
