Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie admits doing deals to get both St Kilda ruck Rowan Marshall and Carlton forward Charlie Curnow to the club won’t be easy.

The Cats, who have already secured Hawthorn midfielder James Worpel as a restricted free agent, will spend the AFL Trade Period working on deals for Marshall and Curnow.

Marshall seems the most likely after publicly declaring his intention to join Geelong late last week.

The 29-year-old has played 156 games and has two years remaining on his current contract, but is keen for a move to the Cats after the Saints lured Tom De Koning to the club.

Curnow, a Geelong Falcons product, has four years to run on his contract with the Blues.

“Two quality players, but as we sit here, it’s going to be hard work to get them both done,” Mackie told AFL Trade Radio.

“We know how the system works, so there’s plenty of work to do if we want to be able to do that.”

Mackie all but ruled out a play for Clayton Oliver.

The Melbourne midfielder met with Geelong last year but chose to stay at the Demons, who have opened the door for him to play elsewhere.

“We managed to get James Worpel in as a free agent, which is great for us; get some midfield depth,” Mackie said.

“We’re excited by that.

“It probably means that the Clayton one was something last year that we were looking at, but not this time around.”
