CATS star Max Holmes will have surgery on a knee injury which will keep the young midfielder on the sidelines for the medium term.
The 20-year-old sustained a meniscus injury to his right knee during Saturday’s loss to Fremantle in Perth but was able to play out the game.
“Max has been enjoying an impressive start to the season so we are disappointed for him and for the team that he will be sidelined until after the bye,” Geelong Cats General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said.
It adds to an already long list of key outs for Geelong, which is set to take on the GIANTS at GMHBA Stadium for its Round 11 clash.
Skipper Patrick Dnagerfield remains out of the side with a minor hamstring injury, with Gary Rohan and Rhys Stanley out for the short term.
Young defender Sam De Koning is a test and will be pushing for a return this weekend, while Jack henry and Tyson Stengle both made their return in Round 10 following extended stints on the sidelines.
