GEELONG coach Paul Hood has labelled Sunday’s loss to Carlton as his club’s best performance of the season despite a 33-point loss.
After an insipid performance the previous week against lowly Richmond, the Cats made the Blues work for four quarters for the 10.4 (64) to 4.7 (31) victory.
“Our game against the Bulldogs was a little bit more tighter and a bit more dour,” Hood said. “But today was more like the way we’d like to play week-after-week.
“The more we do it; the more we attack, the better we’ll get at it.”
Geelong’s score was it’s highest of the season, with its attacking intent more purposeful than what it produced against the Tigers.
Hood says the message to his players following last week was to be “more assertive” with its style of play.
“It comes with risk, but that’s footy,” he said.
“You need to try and drive the game your way, and our players were much better than that, so credit to everyone for doing that today.
“And, in the end, Carlton was just a little bit more polished in that first half – I think they were 6.2 and were 4.4, and that was probably the difference.
“Carlton (was) a bit more experienced, and their class came to the fore early.”
Young defender Millie Brown will be assessed after experiencing hamstring tightness, while Georgie Rankin was unwell throughout the game.
Geelong will make its first interstate trip of the season in Round 7 when it travels to Perth next Sunday for a clash with the West Coast Eagles.
