GRYAN Miers looks set to make his first VFL appearance in nearly three years after being named in the Geelong team for Friday’s clash with Footscray at GMHBA Stadium.
The livewire forward hasn’t played since suffering a fractured leg in the Cats’ AFL loss to Sydney on May 1.
It snapped a streak of 53 consecutive games since the Grovedale product made his debut in Round 1, 2019.
Miers last VFL match was Geelong’s semi-final loss to Box Hill in September 2019.
The Cats clash with the second-placed Doggies, a curtain-raiser to the AFL match-up between Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, is their first game since beating Coburg on May 20.
18 AFL-listed players have been named for Geelong. However, with all four AFL emergencies among that contingent, that number is likely to be smaller at the first bounce.
It includes Quinton Narkle, the likely frontrunner to be the medical substitute again, and veteran midfielder Shaun Higgins.
Higgins was listed as managed by the Cats at AFL selection.
The first bounce is at 4:10pm, with gates to GMHBA Stadium for ticketholders opening at 4:00pm.
