CAT ATTACK PODCAST – DECEMBER 8
Lawson Humphries has become the first of Geelong’s list that comes out of contract next year to put pen to paper on a contract extension.
The 22-year-old defender has inked a two-year deal that will keep him in the Hoops until at least the end of 2028.
Since being taken with pick 63 in the 2024 National Draft, the emerging half-back has played 36 of a possible 37 games, including five finals.
“A pretty easy decision in the end; just glad to get it done,” Humphries said of the contract.
“I’m obviously excited for another big year. I think there’s a lot of excitement for us.
“I’ve had a good couple of years since I’ve been here, and, hopefully, we can do one better.
“I feel really good, and really confident within the group that we can do some really big things, and (I’m happy to be here for a couple of more years.”
Humphries’ re-signing leaves 20 players only contracted until the end of next year.
Among them are captain Patrick Dangerfield and fellow veterans Rhys Stanley, Jake Kolodjashnij, Jed Bews and Mark Blicavs.
Mature-age draftee Shaun Mannagh and 2025 arrival Jack Martin are also out of contract, while Jack Bowes’ four-year deal after signing from Gold Coast comes to its conclusion.
