NEWLY-appointed Geelong president Craig Drummond has put the club’s wish for 11 home games and finals at GMHBA Stadium back on the agenda.
Drummond, who officially took on the role on January 28, replacing the long-serving Colin Carter, says when the final stage redevelopment of GMHBA Stadium is completed sometime in the first half of 2023, the Cats want to play every home game at the venue.
“That will give us close to a 40,000 seat capacity, and clearly the objective is to have 11 home games at Geelong; not seven, not nine, but 11,” he told K rock Football.
“And we’ll be pushing the case for that, as we will continue to push our case for home finals, as and when they are deserved.
“Building to get some bigger (Melbourne) clubs down at GMHBA is an objective of ours, particularly we have 40,000 seat capacity.
“There are a number of clubs that play in grounds that don’t have a 40,000 capacity.
“Canberra’s a good example. The GWS don’t play in a home ground that has a 40,000 capacity.
“So, I think there’s plenty of precedents to suggest that we should really push for an 11-home game opportunity.”
