Fresh from his selection in the All-Australian team following the under-18 National Championships, Geelong NGA prospect Jesse Mellor has been named in the Cats’ VFL team for Sunday’s meeting with North Melbourne.
Mellor, who was born in Thailand, kicked eight goals and averaged 11 disposals, 4.5 marks, and 2.5 tackles in four matches for Vic Country.
At Talent League level, Mellor has kicked 14 goals in eight appearances for the Geelong Falcons, including five against Tasmania.
His father is current Geelong West (GFNL) coach Greg Mellor, who captained SANFL club West Adelaide during a 198-game career and was an assistant coach at Richmond.
Mellor is one of five inclusions for the Arden Street clash, with Mitch Knevitt, George Stevens, Joe Pike and Oli Wiltshire all returning to give Geelong a season-high 17 AFL-listed players.
They replace VFL quintet Nathan Kreuger (injured), Taj Wyburd, Jamieson Ballantyne, Joseph Chaplin, and Oscar Pollock.
