It will be a case of all in the family for the Holmes boys at GMHBA Stadium.

Geelong has selected Hunter Holmes with pick 33 in tonight’s AFL National Draft, opening the door to a potential pairing with brother Max in the Cats’ midfield.

Holmes is highly rated as both an inside and outside midfielder, having been a standout for the Oakleigh Chargers, Melbourne Grammar, and Vic Metro at the under-18 National Championships.

He also recorded one of the fastest times in the 20 metre sprint at the National Combine, taking just 2.89 seconds – the third-fastest record in Combine history.

Max Holmes joined Geelong with pick 20 in the 2020 National Draft and has won two Carji Greeves medals in his 102-game career.

The Holmes brothers are the sons of former Olympic sprinter Lee Naylor, who also won a gold medal in the 4x400m at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Hunter Holmes joins South Australian Harley Barker as the Cats’ two National Draft selections.

The club plans to use two of their three selections in tomorrow’s Rookie Draft on delisted duo George Stevens and Keighton Matofai-Forbes.
